OUR FACTORIES.

We take immense pride in producing and sourcing all our tiles from Japan. They are produced in small, family-owned factories where the craft has been handed down for generations.

Each of our factories select and carefully combines up to fourteen different types of local clay found only in the Tajimi region of Japan.

Skilled artisans use various techniques from dry-pressing and extrusion moulding depending on the characteristic and design they want to achieve.

The firing process, lasting up to 38 hours in custom-built tunnel kilns, reaches temperatures as high as 1300 degrees Celsius. This extensive process highlights the dedication to craftsmanship and tradition.

Before the final firing, glazes are applied to create unique hues reminiscent of ancient Japanese pottery.

The unique variations in colour and texture are influenced by the tile's position in the kiln and the amount of oxygen levels during firing.

This craftsmanship is unique to this small region of Japan which makes our tiles truly exceptional.
